Howard Park Prayer

Saturday morning was busy at Howard Park. Girls on the run was finishing up an impromptu race. The South Bend Culture Club was setting up for their fair. And 20 people gathered down by the river to pray.

Christians from across Michiana gathered to pray for peace, and to practice a call to unity. We are concerned about the violence, COVID virus, economic problems and divisions in our society. We came together from different denominations, different ethnicities and different neighborhoods to agree that God desires us to live together in peace.

We used different imagery to convey our commitment to being used by God together for peace. One imagery of salt conveyed the concepts of distinctive flavor, preserving qualities, and expensive offering of Christians who are united together. Karin Baker, who organizes monthly events for Christians to practice unity, hopes that these events will help Christians live up to Jesus’ calling “you are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13).”
