This column highlights the generosity of neighbors in the Buy Nothing East Bank Facebook group. The Buy Nothing Project is a international experiment that brings neighbors together to share our bounty and ask for the things we need. We embrace a mindset of abundance, not scarcity, and we measure wealth by the personal connections formed between neighbors.
This week the neighborhood gardens were flowing. We’ve seen gifts of tomatoes, herbs, and flowers. As some parents make the decision to homeschool, we’ve seen homeschool supplies, curriculum, furniture, and decor passed around. Our heaviest gift this week was a piano from Christina! Our quickest gift was when Holly needed a document printed—this request was fulfilled by Meghan within 2 minutes! And most uplifting: despite the local bike shortage, several neighbors were gifted bikes straight from their neighbors’ garages.
